Israel and the extremist organization Hamas have reached an agreement on a series of regional ceasefires for the duration of polio vaccinations for children, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Thursday.

A vaccination campaign for about 640,000 children is scheduled to begin on Sunday in central Gaza. The fight is to be suspended for nine hours over three consecutive days.

After this, the ceasefire zone will move to southern Gaza and finally to northern Gaza, WHO representative Rik Peeperkorn described the arrangement.

Hamas representative Basem Married confirmed to the news agency Reuters that the organization supports the WHO initiative for a ceasefire.
