Who is Wullf Yularen in Andor? Episode 7 brings back forgotten Star Wars character

Who is Wullf Yularen in Andor Episode 7 brings back

Though Andor is a spin-off from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Disney+’s new Star Wars series doesn’t care much for big cameos and Easter eggs. Most cross references will be subtly woven into the story. However, a highly intriguing character sneaks into the latest installment.

Wulf Yularen marches through the rooms of the Imperial Security Office, delighting some Star Wars fans. Will Yularen? This name has appeared many times in the galaxy far, far away. It’s all the more ironic that the very first appearance of the character by Star Wars creator George Lucas was never specifically named.

Andor Episode 7 brings back Wullf Yularen from Episode 4

The first time we saw Wullf Yularen in the Star Wars universe was in 1977’s Star Wars. So theoretically he is one of the oldest figures of the franchise. Back then, he only moved through the Death Star in the background a few times. Yularen got its name from a trading card game.

Wullf Yularen in Star Wars

Only the one published between 1995 and 2001 Star Wars Customizable Card Game gave a name to the Imperial Colonel’s face. The character later appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, as well as 23 episodes of the accompanying animated series. Yularen also appeared in Star Wars Rebels for two episodes.

Among other comic, book, and video game mentions, Wullf Yularen has one of his most impressive performances to date in Andor Episode 7. The exciting thing about the character is that after the collapse of the republic, she simply changed adapted to the new order and now bossing the Imperial Security Office around.

Wullf Yularen’s connection to Star Wars villain Thrawn

Yularen’s presence in Andor opens up some opportunities for interconnecting individual Star Wars stories. Last but not least, he has a connection to Grand Admiral Thrawn, whose first live-action appearance was teased in The Mandalorian season 2 and is expected to take place as part of the Ahsoka series planned for 2023.

However, we should not assume that Andor to the Ahsoka launch pad becomes. Series creator Tony Gilroy has repeatedly emphasized that the two-season series will culminate in the events of Rogue One and we shouldn’t expect a cameo parade à la The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.

Rather, it seems like Yularen is being set up as a counterpart to Mon Mothma, while ISB employee Dedra Meero targets Cassian. Mon Mothma has gained a lot more profile in recent Andor episodes. Here too we have one familiar Star Wars character to do, redefined by the events in Andor
