Who is Wout Weghorst Ronald Koemans super replacement

Dutch Supersub Wout Weghorst should once again come into play against France this Friday and be a real threat to the French defense.

His name is rarely included among the starting eleven during Dutch matches. A rough center forward of one meter 97, Wout Weghorst has taken the place of replacement at the forefront of the Oranje attack for several years, first under Louis van Gaal then Ronald Koeman.

However, the 31-year-old center forward did not seem destined for an international career like his. He started in 2012 in the Dutch second division, before signing in 2014 in the national first division. He spent four years there before joining Wolfsburg in Germany and making his first selections with the national team. Not selected for the 2018 World Cup, he is still present at Euro 2021.

Recalled by Louis Van Gaal to participate in the 2022 World Cup at the age of 29, he notably scored a double coming off the bench in the quarter-final against Argentina to secure extra time. A role which is now assigned to him with the selection, to the point that during the preparation matches for this Euro 2024 he was not among the starters of the match between the Netherlands and Canada, which quite displeased the TSG player Hoffenheim.

THE Supersub of the Dutch selection did it again during the Netherlands’ first match in this Euro against Poland. Entering the game in the 81st minute, Wout Weghorst scored his team’s winning goal less than two minutes later, deflecting his first ball into the goal. This is now the fourth time in an international competition (Euro or World Cup) that Weghorst has scored coming off the bench with the Netherlands. This makes him the Dutch top scorer in this role.

Loaned for the last two seasons by his club Burnley, first to Beşiktaş JK, then to Manchester United and finally to Hoffenheim this season, Wout Weghorst could well return to the Dutch championship this summer, this time with a big name of the ‘Eredivise. Ajax Amsterdam hopes to attract the 31-year-old striker who only has one year left on his contract.
