Born in Guinea-Bissau, President of Guinea Umaro Sissoco Embaló is 50 years old. He graduated from the Lisbon Technical University Higher Institute of Social and Political Sciences in International Relations and from the Complutense University of Madrid in Political Science and PhD in International Relations. Multilingual Guinean President Umaro Sissoco Embaló won 53.55 percent of the vote in the December 2019 elections and became the head of state.

President of Guinea, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, who speaks Portuguese and Spanish, is fluent in English, French, Arabic and Swahili. President Umaro Sissoco Embaló has made commitments in the military field on National Defense Studies at the Spanish National Defense Center and on Telecommunications in Brussels, on-going National Security in Tel Aviv, Johannesburg, Japan and Paris. He rose to the rank of Brigadier General.
He has become an expert on Africa and the Middle East, and on defense, international cooperation and development. Umaro Sissoco Embaló is a former Minister of African Affairs. He was appointed Prime Minister by President José Mário Vaz on 18 November 2016. He then formed his cabinet on 13 December 2016.
Announcing his resignation two weeks ago, Embaló officially resigned on January 30, 2018, leaving the post to Artur Silva. He was a candidate in the 2019 presidential elections. He received the most votes in the round in November 2019 and came out in the runoff as one of the two candidates. In the elections in December 2019, he received 53.55% of the votes and became the new head of state of Guinea-Bissau.
