Santeri Kiiveri made a breakthrough of the year
Alpine skier Santeri Kiiveri made history at the Beijing Paralympics and was chosen as the recipient of Läpimurto-Uno.
Kiiver became Finland’s first alpine skier to win a Paralympic medal. He first won silver in the super alpine combined and just three days later he became Finland’s first Olympic or Paralympic competition winner in alpine skiing when he was number one in the giant slalom.
The other candidates for the Breakthrough Award were bowler Peppi Konsteri, who was also nominated for Young Athlete of the Year, sailors Sinem Kurtbay and Akseli Keskinen, and ice hockey player Artturi Lehkonen.
Breakthrough means rising to the absolute top of your sport in the last year.
