The new government of Emmanuel Macron, freshly re-elected, was unveiled on Friday May 20. On the proposal of Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, Brigitte Bourguignon is appointed Minister of Health and Prevention. She succeeds Olivier Véran who becomes Minister Delegate in charge of Parliament and Democratic Life.
Who is Brigitte Bourguignon?
Brigitte Bourguignon was born on March 21, 1959 in Boulogne-sur-Mer in the Pas-de-Calais. She is 63 years old. She was Deputy Mayor of Boulogne-sur-Mer in charge of the fight against exclusion, people with disabilities and early childhood from 2001 to 2012. She is National Secretary of the Socialist Party responsible for sport in 2008. In 2012, she was elected deputy PS of the 6th constituency of Pas-de-Calais. From 2014 to 2018, she is Municipal councilor at the city of Marquise (Pas de Calais). In 2017she joined the ranks of Emmanuel Macron’s En Marche party and was then expelled from the Socialist Party. She had joined in 1987. She remains a member of the 6and constituency of Pas-de-Calais from 2017 to 2020 but under the LaREM label. Brigitte Bourguignon is elected President of the Social Affairs Commission of the National Assembly June 29, 2017. In June 2020, she was appointed president of the commission of inquiry into the health crisis at the National Assembly. In July 2020she is named Minister Delegate to Olivier Véran in charge of Autonomy. It takes charge of issues related to “old age”, in particular support for the elderly at home, the fight against their isolation and the modernization of retirement homes. She is named the May 20, 2022 Minister of Health and Prevention under the second term of Emmanuel Macron and takes the place of Olivier Véran. She is running in parallel to the legislative elections of June 2022 in the 6th district of Nord-Pas-de-Calais.
