Who is America Chavez, also known as Miss America, who joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness?
Although comic book followers have heard his name before, undoubtedly one of the most curious questions after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is “Who is America Chavez?” There will be a question.
Who is America Chavez, also known as Miss America?
America Chavez, also known as Miss America, stepped into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with this movie. Undoubtedly, we will see him in new films to be released. Now let’s take a closer look at the origin and powers of this character.
The emergence of the character
America Chavez first appeared in the mini comic book series “Vengeance”, published in 2011. America Chavez, who appeared as a member of the Teen Brigade group in this mini-series, became a popular character with both his looks and his powers. In this way, he managed to become one of the permanent members of the team with the Youbg Avengers series, which he made a real impact in 2013.
In this series of Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie, which featured characters such as Miss America, Wiccan, Hulkling, Prodigy, Hawkeye (Kate Bishop) and Kid Loki, the struggle with an interdimensional parasite was included. Of course, when the business is an interdimensional enemy, we can of course say that they benefited greatly from America Chavez’s abilities, which we will explain a little later.
Miss America’s story
Just like in the movie Multiverse of Madness, although the origin of the character was briefly mentioned in these series, the main story details were told in the comics released in 2017 and 2021. America Chavez is a character living in a different dimension called Utopian Parallel.
We learn about the origin of the character, who has two mothers named Amalia and Elena Chavez, in later comics. The main purpose of this utopia, in which Chavez, who lives in this world with beauties like utopia (at least we can say that he has beauties in appearance), takes place, is to identify children with special powers and to seize their power in a way.
With the emergence of America Chavez’s powers, their mother actually understands the purpose of this utopia and tries to escape from it. The plan of the duo, who plans to take the other children with Chavez during their escape, of course, falls into the water and they are caught. After a series of events, after the mothers sacrificed herself, only America Chavez escaped from the facility thanks to the portal she opened and came to our world.
Found and raised by the Santana family, our character enters the world of superheroes with small heroic tasks to honor their mother. Our character, who rushed to the aid of the orphans in the neighborhood in the first place, progresses in heroic deeds over time and finds himself as one of the members of the Young Avengers. She is also one of the characters who received the nickname Miss America during her heroic deeds.
America Chavez powers and abilities
America Chavez can open Star Shaped portals just like he appeared in the MCU. Since he is a character who can travel between these portals and parallel worlds as he wishes, his power has a very important place. Chavez, whom we learned in later comics that his real origin is Planeta Fuertona, therefore has features such as superpower, endurance and speed.
Here, where the origin of the character is, everyone has similar powers, but the number of people who can open special portals is very few and they are called Starlings. Chavez also gains the ability to fly due to the cosmic spells he was exposed to in the Utopian Parallel. Still, we’ll probably see him rendered in the MCU without this feature.
The character’s place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe
As I mentioned at the beginning, we saw America Chavez joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the movie Doctor Strange: In the Madness of the Multiverse. He will probably be a character that we come across in Phase 4 movies and later. In this movie, we see that the character can travel to other parallel universes by opening star-shaped portals, just like in the comic book series.
This power puts itself in a very important position for the MCU, which is already addressing the issue of parallel universes. We can say that we are highly likely to see him in all the movies that deal with this subject, especially the 3rd Doctor Strange movie, and even in all the movies where we see crowded marvel characters.
On the other hand, we see that the origin story of the character in the movie Multiverse of Madness is handled a little differently than in the comics. There are very few scenes in this movie. Some important points are compatible with the comic book series, but the issues that are separated are also quite a lot. In short, there is a high probability that Marvel will sign a different process in this character, as in many side characters. We will not write this detail for now to avoid spoilers, but after the movie is released in theaters, other details will be added to this article.
America Chavez, an African American, is played by Xochitl Gomez in the movie. The fact that the actor is only 16 years old means that he can take part in the Marvel cast for a long time. We see that the biggest project of the young actor, who has played large and small roles in different productions, is Doctor Strange 2. This film may also open new doors in the career of the actor.
I think Marvel, which has already laid the foundations of Young Avengers, will eventually come across these stories as well. As a matter of fact, in the Hawkeye series, a kind of flag has already been transferred to Kate Bishop. So two members of the team are already ready. We can say that the new characters to be introduced with the new Marvel movies to be released will accelerate the realization of these projects.
