Scream VI has the most ghostface killers in the horror franchise

The 6th installment in the Scream series breaks records for the slasher franchise on multiple levels. One of them is the surprising number of Ghostfaces. After a total of nine murderers were behind the Ghostface mask in the past five films, it is there are four killers in Scream VI – actually there are even five.

Ghostface Killer 1: Jason

Jason in Scream VI

The first Ghostface reveals itself after only a few minutes in the surprising opening scene. Jason (Tony Revolori) is a film student and one of a toxic group of fans bent on completing Richie Kirsch’s plan from Scream 5 and killing the Carpenter sisters. His roommate Greg is one of them. However, he was killed before he can walk through Manhattan himself as a Ghostface.

Ghostface Killer 2: Detective Bailey

The NYPD homicide detective fooled us all. In truth, Detective Bailey (Dermot Mulroney) is the father of Ghostface killer Richie Kirsch, who died in Scream 5, and wants revenge. The killer he’s looking for throughout the film is himself.

Ghostface Killer 3: Ethan

Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown) was right in her suspicions: the shy Ethan (Jack Champion) is (a) Ghostface and in fact the son of Detective Bailey. Under a false identity, he befriended alpha male Chad (Mason Gooding) to become part of the Carpenter sisters’ clique. The Scream series sets another record with this killer: actor Jack Champion has become the youngest person to be revealed as Ghosface in six films.

Ghostface Killer 4: Quinn

Quinn in Scream VI

Quinn (Liana Liberato) has pulled off the ultimate red herring. Sam’s (Melissa Barrera) and Tara’s (Jenna Ortega) “dead brother” roommate appeared to be just another victim after the apartment building was attacked. Thanks to some latex, fake blood and the help of her cop father, she was able to fake her death. Quinn was able to remain unnoticed as a ghostface for the rest of the film and was behind the attacks on Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and Mindy, among others.

The motive and plan of the Ghostface killers in Scream VI

As the second part of the Requel era, the new film has some parallels to Scream 2. This is evident not only in settings like a college or an abandoned movie theater, but also in the motif of the mastermind behind the Ghostface attack. Like Mrs. Loomis once was, so is Detective Bailey a parent driven by revengewho blames the Final Girl for his child’s death.

In memory of his late son Richie, who was obsessed with the Stab films and the real-life murders behind them, Bailey and his killer children left the masks of the previous 9 Ghostface killers at different crime scenes.

Her goal is to brutally murder everyone connected to Richie’s death. In the end, of course, all this should be attached to Billy Loomis’ daughter Samwho has already been labeled as a mentally unstable perpetrator in the public eye through Quinn’s skillful online manipulation.

Bloody finale in the franchise shrine: This is how Scream VI ends

Sam in Scream VI

The big and bloody finale plays out in Richie’s franchise shrine in an abandoned movie theater away. This location was supposed to be used to trap and kill Ghostface. But nobody could have expected that three Ghostfaces would gather here at the same time.

After the killers have revealed their identities and master plan, the final battle ensues: three killers versus the two Carpenter sisters. What the Baileys didn’t expect, however, was that these two final girls were full of anger and fighting back.

First, Tara stabs her attacker Ethan with Billy Loomis’ knife in the neck and turns it over with relish. Tara then hits Quinn in the head. Now only Detective Bailey remains.

For the ultimate final battle, Sam releases the serial killer within her and becomes Ghostface herself – and Bailey the victim. With a Scream-typical phone call, she lures him behind the cinema screen, where he from Ghostface Sam being stabbed dozens of times before being stabbed in the eye and finally killing him.

At the end of the day, every scream film refers to the horror rule that the dead Killer always returns for a final shock. This last moment of shock falls to Ethan, who survived and is now charging towards Tara and Sam. Before he can reach her, Kirby (Hayden Panettiere) smacks him with an Easter egg: the TV that was (allegedly) used to kill Stu Macher.
