The sweetener aspartame, which is used, among other things, in soft drinks, is classified as “possibly carcinogenic” to humans, after a new study from the World Health Organization WHO.
According to the WHO, there is “limited evidence” that the substance is carcinogenic, but it emphasizes that the guidelines for the maximum intake per day will not change.
A separate expert group, which reviewed the same material, still believes the sweetener is safe in limited amounts.
