How to Release Orpheus?

Orpheus is a Githyanki prince stuck in the “Astral plane.” His power is absorbed by the Emperor, protecting our main character and his companions from the power of Saltik. To save Orpheus, we need the hammer owned by the devil named Raphael. There are two ways to get this hammer:

  • You can get this hammer the easy way by promising Raphael the crown. But giving the crown to Raphael might not be a very logical decision. Raphael is the devil himself. We are giving Satan a weapon that can control all of the Mindflayers, one of the most powerful races in the world. It is obvious that Satan will use this weapon for his own evil purposes.
  • Another way is to go to the “House of Hope”, Raphael’s house. You can get the hammer by fighting one of the best bosses in the game in this house. You can also have some of the most powerful armor and swords in the game. If you want to kill Raphael and want to do it the easy way, you may want to attract the demon named Yurgir to your side before the battle.

Consequences of Releasing Orpheus

What you do with Orpheus directly affects your companion, Lae’zel. When Lae’zel learns that her race has suffered for years at the hands of Vlaakith, she wants to free Orpheus. If you listen to Lae’zel, you will lose the Emperor and find him as your enemy. To release Orpheus or not is more than a choice. You can ensure a better future for the Githyanki by saving Orpheus, the rightful owner of the throne, instead of Vlaakith, the cruel queen of an entire race.

If you free Orpheus, he will recommend that the main character transform into a Mindflayer. Because he will say that this is the only way you can fight against the “Ancestor Brain”. If you refuse this offer, he will want to turn into Mindface. If he becomes a Mindflayer, he will not be able to become leader of the Githyanki. If you sacrifice your own life to become a Mindflayer, you can save the Githyanki race.

Releasing Orpheus, allowing yourself or Orpheus to become the mind face, is a manifold dilemma. If you agree with Raphael to save Orpheus, a surprise “after credit” scene awaits you.
