NASA has just presented a selection of ten candidate astronauts. Ten “Members of the Artemis generation”, the program that should bring men back to the moon in the current decade. Almost as many women as men with varied profiles.

A little less than a year ago, NASA presented 18 astronauts she had selected to join the Artemis program. The one who will lead men to once again set foot on the Moon. Yesterday, the US Space Agency announced a new selection of ten candidate astronauts – from more than 12,000 applications. A first for four years.
The future astronauts will take up their duties next January. Two years of training await them during which they will have to learn to master the systems of the International Space Station, to train for spacewalks, to develop their skills in robotic, fly a T-38 trainer and learn Russian. It is only then that they can be assigned to various missions. Among which: a trip to the Moon … or even to Mars!
Various profiles for extraordinary careers
The profiles of these candidate astronauts are varied. Among the ten, there are four women and six men. They are between 32 and 45 years old. Many have military training, but some come from other backgrounds.
Nichole Ayers, for example, is the youngest of the promotion. She is also the one who led, in 2019, the very first all-female formation of the F-22, a combat aircraft.
Marcos Berríos is also a fighter pilot. It has some 1,300 hours of flight time on 21 different aircraft.
Christina Birch graduated in Biological Engineering. And she shone on the United States National Team … in track cycling.
Deniz Burnham is an industry expertenergy. He manages drilling projects across North America.
Luke Delaney, meanwhile, is a test pilot. He logged no less than 3,700 flight hours on 48 various aircraft models.
Andre Douglas is already working on maritime robotics, planetary defense and space exploration missions for NASA.
Jack Hathaway is Commander of the United States Navy. He flew 39 combat missions.
Anil Menon is the oldest in the promotion. He was SpaceX’s first flight surgeon. He has a solid experience of crisis medicine thanks to interventions on earthquake or other disasters in particular.
Christopher Williams is a researcher. For example, he worked on the development of image guidance techniques for anti-cancer treatments. Cancer.
Jessica Wittner is a naval aviator and test pilot.
Remember that the initially set objective of return to the moon in 2024 cannot be held. NASA confirmed this a few weeks ago. The new calendar now provides for the date of 2025.
