    Close to 35 million children worldwide lack adequate protection against measles, according to the WHO. Only four out of five children receive the first dose of measles vaccine – far below the coverage needed to prevent outbreaks.

    – Measles outbreaks are like the canary in a coal mine and show the gaps in vaccination programs, says WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

    More than a hundred countries have been affected by measles outbreaks since 2019. The fact that relatively few children are vaccinated is the main reason why the disease breaks out, WHO writes in a press release.

  • Suspected dangerous object – residents evacuated

    A suspiciously dangerous object has been found in an area in Hjällbo-Eriksbo in Gothenburg.

    The alarm was received at 23.21.

    – It is about a suspected dangerous object that was found outdoors, says Martin Hallberg, officer on duty at the police in the West region.

    The police have started a preliminary investigation into attempts at public destruction.

    – Housing has been occupied and evacuated. I have no further comments on this, says Martin Hallberg.

  • Several dead in new attack on school in Gaza

    At least 15 people have died in an Israeli attack on a school in a refugee camp in Nuseirat in central Gaza. This is stated by the Gaza Civil Defense.

    The attack is the fifth against a school in Gaza in the last eight days. As with the previous attacks, the Israeli military IDF states that the building is a hideout for Hamas and is used as a base for attacks against Israel.

    According to the Hamas-controlled civil defense, thousands of people were in or near the school, which is run by the UN Palestine agency UNRWA.

  • Bremen bans hand gestures

    Germany’s Bremen has issued a total ban on the use of a hand gesture.

    It is about the “silent fox” because of its similarity to the “wolf gesture” linked to the Turkish far-right organization the Gray Wolves.

    Seven forest fires raged in North Macedonia during Sunday. The government has declared a state of emergency.

    Over 100 hectares of forest have burned down and on Friday an extreme weather warning was issued with temperatures reaching 42 degrees in some areas.

    A 75-year-old woman disappeared from a summer house south of Hamneda in Ljungby last night.

  • Hamas leader killed in attack

    Hamas leader Rafa Salama was killed in the attack on Khan Yunis in southern Gaza on Saturday.

    This is stated by the IDF, which claims that Salama was the target of the attack.

    90 people died and at least 290 people were injured in the attack, which hit buildings and tents where civilians had sought shelter.
