It is the symbol of Wimbledon. To respect the aristocratic origins of tennis at the end of the 19th century, and to put players on an equal footing, male and female players are forced by the All England Club to play in white. Off-white or cream is prohibited. For colours, a single stripe of a maximum of 1 cm on the edge of sleeves, shorts or skirts is authorized. In 2013, Roger Federer upset the All England Club with his white boots which featured orange soles.
