While continuing to deploy Android 14 on several Galaxy smartphones and tablets, Samsung has just given the list of models that will be able to benefit from the next version, Android 15, as soon as it is released in fall 2024. And there are many of them!
In mid-February 2024, the first Developer Preview of Android 15, the first beta of Google’s next mobile operating system, has just been deployed on Pixel devices, with the version only expected this fall . And if, as always, Google has given priority to its own smartphones, other manufacturers have promised to share some of their models, as is the case with each major system update. An essential development today, which allows devices to last longer, pushing back the deadline for inevitable obsolescence.
Of course, Samsung, which remains the main seller of mobile devices in the world, is among the first to carry out updates for its already marketed products. And as for other manufacturers, everything happens through the in-house software overlay – One UI at Samsung – which is based on Android with additional functions and a personalized interface. While the deployment of Android 14 is still underway on the Galaxy via the One UI 6 update, it is already possible to know which models will be eligible for its successor One UI 7.0, which will be based on Android 15, depending on of Samsung’s software update policy and current device availability.
Which Samsung Galaxy smartphones will benefit from Android 15?
Since 2022, Samsung has been supporting the vast majority of its devices with four years of OS updates and five years of security patches, and three years of Android and security updates for its entry-level models – which is better than what some competitors offer on their most expensive products. Better yet, the latest Galaxy S24s will receive updates for no less than seven years! This means that any Galaxy device launched with Android 12 or later should receive the Android 15 update – but that won’t stop some older devices from receiving the update. So be patient!
