Eurostat, or the Statistical Office of the European Union, has just published a study in December 2022 concerning the regions of Europe where people live the longest.
Corsica, on the first step of the podium
According to the results of this work, it is Corsica which takes first place in the European region where people live the oldest. Indeed, on the Island of Beauty, men have a life expectancy of 84 years for men and 87 years for women, where the European average is 80.4 years.
The second place in this European ranking is attributed to the Balearic Islands in Spain, with a life expectancy of 83.9 years. Finally, in third place are the inhabitants of the region of Epirus, in western Greece, with 83.8 years of life expectancy. The islands therefore seem to be a place of life favorable to longevity.
Let’s count down the top 10 most popular stats of the year! ??

At the other end of the ranking Bulgaria
If the so-called Mediterranean countries, such as France, Italy, Spain or Greece are relatively well ranked as a whole, the Eastern countries are much less so. At the bottom of the pack is Bulgaria, particularly poorly ranked, with only 72.1 years of life expectancy in the northwest and 72.8 years in the center-north. The numbers are even down from 2019 data. A related drop”to the sudden increase in mortality in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic“says Eurostat.
