In ESO High Isle has two new companions to accompany you on your adventures: the noble knight Isobel and the fierce Khajiit mage Funke. But who are the two actually, what do you have to consider with them and how can you recruit them for your cause? Find out all about it in our big special on the new companions in High Isle.
What are companions in ESO? Companions are special NPCs that you can recruit through quests in ESO. The system was introduced back in 2021 with the Blackwood chapter.
Companions are full-fledged characters with their own skills and traits. You can include them in your party instead of a human player; Ideal for players who also like to play MMORPGs without human players.
Depending on the role, the companions can then take on the function of tanks, healers or damage dealers, among other things.
But you can also interact with the companions and win their friendship. This, in turn, unlocks more skills, dialogue, and even quests.
Which ones already exist? When the companion system was introduced in 2021, there were already two companions. The elf Mirri and the warrior Bastian. In High Isle, the system will now be expanded to include two additional companions.
Isobel and Funke – Everything about the two new companions
What new helpers joined High Isle? With the new Chapter 2022 two more companions come into play. You can now recruit a fierce Khajiit Sorceress and a brave but clumsy Knight to your cause.
The two companions are extremely different and where Isobel is an honest and righteous warrior, Funke is a wild troublemaker who loves glorious chaos.
Isobel Veloise – The brave knight
Who is this? Isobel comes from the wealthy Veloise merchant family based on the High Isle. But Isobel’s heart does not beat for boring bills of lading and soporific bookkeeping. In fact, even as a little girl she liked to play knight and princess with her best friend and was always on the move as a knight.
That’s why she entered the service of an order and is now trying to make a name for herself as a prospective warrior. At the big sapphire tournament at Navire Castle, this should finally be the case.
Where are their strengths? Isobel is a brave young woman. She is honest, loyal, keeps her word, acts honorably and is courageous. As a fighter, she is always at the forefront. So you can use her ideally as a damage dealer.
But Isobel’s class is Templar. This means she also has a number of useful healing and support skills. So if you regularly take too much damage, Isobell is a good choice.
In addition, Isobel will reward you with special loot containers for knocking out world bosses.
What are your weaknesses? Isobel is an honest and loyal soul. While she would never betray a comrade, she frowns on breaking the rules.
Isobel is also somewhat clumsy and naïve in social situations. So don’t expect to shine with her on the social stage.
How to win her favor? As with all companions, Isobel’s favor may rise or fall. If you have achieved enough affection, up to two extra quests will be unlocked.
After completing the second quest, you will be given the opportunity to let Isobel move in as a house guest in your housing domiciles.
To rise in Isobel’s favor you should behave bravely and honorably. You’ll get tons of points from her for beating world bosses in High Isle daily or for completing Bolgrul’s daily dungeon quests from the Undaunted. There are more points for slain bosses and Deadra as well as for sealed volcanic vents.
Isobel also likes it when you visit the Undaunted bases and talk to people like the warrior Lyris and the leaders of the alliances.
Isobel also likes sweets, and if you make any, you’ll get a point in her favor as well. She also likes it when you forge things, repair gear, and take on PvP duels.

What should you leave alone? Be careful though, Isobel has clear moral guidelines and you’ll lose her affection if you behave like a villain.
First off, you shouldn’t stab anyone with the assassin’s blade while she’s around. Such murderous deeds do not go down well with the honorable knight!
Also, stay away from the Dark Brotherhood Havens and also the Thieves Guild when Isobel is around. Merely entering such dark places gives trouble.
On top of that, keep your fingers to yourself and don’t steal anything when Isobell is around. She also takes that very seriously.
But if you still want to steal, murder and seek out fences, it’s better to send Isobel away first. What she doesn’t know doesn’t bother her.
Where can you find Isobel? If you like the idea of having a brave, honest and endearingly clumsy young knight with you, then go all the way to the southwest of the High Island to Castle Navire.
There the great sapphire tournament takes place, in which many great knights take part. Isobel is one of them and if you help the young aspirant with her problems, she will join you as a companion at the end of a 45 minute quest.
Funke – The wild sorceress
Who is this? Behind this unusual name hides a young Khajiit magician. However, she is not one of the typical scholars who acquired her knowledge after years of studying ancient tomes.
Rather, the erratic cat lady is something of a natural. Her magical talents seem to be shaped solely by her chaotic will.
Still, the Magister Irin tried to shape her powers and channel Funke’s raw talent into orderly channels. So far, however, this seems to have had only moderate success.
Funke wants to learn and become more powerful. But she refuses to enter a study or even open a book! Rather, she tries everything out, annoys her teacher and often unleashes quite a bit of chaos with her enthusiasm and her love of experimentation.
Where are their strengths? Spark is pure energy and glorious chaos. She belongs to the sorcerer class and can above all conjure up devastating lightning.
This makes her ideal as a damage dealer. She is particularly good at decimating large groups of enemies, as many of her attacks target a zone.
In addition, there are various skills with which she can blind or hold opponents. It is also good for group control of enemies.
Finally, Funke has a handful of spells that give you protection and life. It is therefore conditionally usable as a healer.
Funke also has a unique skill that grants you extra loot when stealing from NPCs.
What are your weaknesses? Funke is a chaotic Khajiit who does as she pleases. She doesn’t follow rules and is actually the complete opposite of good Isobel.
As a mage, Funke is also not your first choice to put her on the front line. So make sure that the lively Khajiit doesn’t have too much direct enemy contact.
How to win her favor? As with Isobel, you can use special actions to gain favor with Funke over the course of the game. In the end, you get a total of two more quests unlocked, with which you get to know Funke better and finally get her as a house guest for your housing places.
Funke likes chaos and trickery. As a Khajiit, she already has a troubled relationship with foreign property. So she’s only too happy if you do a daily raid for the Thieves Guild.
She also likes it when you steal from people, sneaking around in areas where you shouldn’t be, and fleeing guards if they catch you.
Funke also appreciates it if you talk your way out of guards or lower your wanted level with forged papers. Funke is also happy to take you to the thieves’ guild hideouts to sell stolen goods to the fence or look at the notices on the bulletin board.
Funke is also very happy if you complete daily tasks for the Mages Guild with her or complete the daylies in the dungeons of High Isle. She also doesn’t like (were)wolves and thinks it’s great when you kill the beasts.
By the way, anyone who owns a “Fox-Red Big-Eared Kitten” as a pet can impress Funke with it.

What should you leave alone? Funke likes disorder and daring. She loves finding unorthodox solutions. Therefore, if you are caught committing a crime, you should never buy your freedom.
It’s better to get lost and join Funke in a wild chase through narrow alleys and over breezy roofs.
Funke also finds it downright stupid to be bludgeoned by guards. And she doesn’t have much respect for you if you get caught scurrying around restricted zones or doing other crimes at all!
By the way, despite her lawless nature, Funke is not a murderess! So put your backstabbing blade down and refrain from killing innocents when the Khajiit accompanies you.
Sounds funny, but it’s like this: Funke hates fishing! So it is better to leave your rod in place when you are out and about with it.
Where can you find sparks? You can find and recruit Sparks very early on in High Isle. Once you have entered the new area near the city of Gonfalon, you can travel straight north and after crossing the large bridge with the Skyshard you will find the Tor Draioch Wayshrine.
This is the place where Magister Irin has been trying to teach Funke about magic and discipline, but has so far been unsuccessful. Funke has made quite a mess instead, and if you assist young Khajiit, she will join you after a quest that lasts about 45 minutes.
