PS5 vs PS5 Digital Edition – The consoles in detail
Where are the differences? The biggest difference between the two models is actually the drive, because the Digital Edition does not have a BluRay drive.
Otherwise, the PS5 looks a bit bulkier and larger compared to the Digital Edition, which also affects the dimensions and weight. Because the normal PS5 is about half a kilogram heavier than the PS5 Digital Edition.
Both the PS5 and the PS5 Digital Edition have 650 GB available for games. Big games like Call of Duty, FIFA or Destiny 2 already take up a good part of the space.
In the meantime, you can expand the internal memory of the PS5 and the PS5 Digital Edition with an SSD. Sony has now activated the option. There are also recommended SSDs for the PS5 to buy.
Does the regular PS5 offer more power? No, both consoles offer you the same hardware and therefore the same performance. With the PS5 Digital Edition you don’t have to do without performance or graphic features.

Why does drive matter? The PS5 offers extensive backwards compatibility. This means you can insert your PS4 games that you own on disc into your PS5 and install them on your PS5. This does not work on the PS5 Digital Edition.
In addition, anyone who relies on the digital version of the PS5 must inevitably purchase their games via the PS Store. Here the games cost a little more on average than, for example, used or from various retailers.
As a further point, you should be aware that you can only rely on the download for the PS5 Digital Edition. If you live in the deepest prairie without a reasonable internet connection, then you will probably have little joy with the digital version.

PS5 or PS5 Digital Edition – Which Console Should I Choose?
Who should get the PS5 Digital Edition? Basically, the PS5 Digital Edition with a recommended retail price of 449.99 euros is exactly 100 euros cheaper than the PS5 with drive.
If all you care about is performance, then it doesn’t matter which console you end up using. Because you get the same performance and the same feature package on both consoles.
If you own all your games digitally, you can certainly save yourself the extra charge, since the normal PS5 model does not otherwise offer you any advantage over the Digital Edition.
Who should get the regular PS5? If you have an extensive library of games on disc or if you also use your console for your movie nights, then you should use the PS5 with a disc drive. Because on the PS5 Digital Edition you can only play digital games and not use your old discs or watch films that you have in your closet.
If you’re a bargain hunter or like to buy used games, then the Digital Edition shouldn’t be an option for you either, since you can only play games on the Digital Edition that you bought digitally.
