Which graphics cards are supported and when will the function for games appear?

At CES 2025, Nvidia not only presented the new RTX 5000 series, but also presented a new version of DLSS. But which graphics cards are supported by DLSS 4.0 or do you have to buy a new graphics card? MeinMMO explains everything you need to know.

The most important thing in brief:

  • Nvidia introduced DLSS 4.0 at CES 2025.
  • DLSS 4.0 appears together with the graphics cards of the RTX 5000 generation. The first two GPUs (RTX 5090, RTX 5080) will be released on January 30, 2025.
  • DLSS 4.0 is compatible with all RTX graphics cards, but some features are exclusive to certain graphics cards.
  • Nvidia has presented an update to its upscaling technology DLSS. Using DLSS, a game is rendered at low resolution and then scaled up to high resolution. This means that the game requires significantly less power. AMD’s counterpart to DLSS is called FSR.

In our article you will find which graphics cards are supported by DLSS 4.0 and which games are included at launch.

    DLSS 4.0 release

When will DLSS 4.0 be released? According to Nvidia, DLSS 4.0 will launch together with the RTX 5000 series. The RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 models are scheduled to be available in stores from January 30, 2025. You can find all the important information about the GeForce RTX 5090 directly from us on MeinMMO.

DLSS 4.0: RTX 5000, RTX 4000 and RTX 3000: Supported graphics cards

Which graphics cards are supported by DLSS 4? All RTX graphics cards from the RTX 2000 family are supported. You can use the basic functions with all RTX graphics cards. You can use DLSS 4.0 even with an old graphics card from the RTX 2000 family.

“Frame Generation” and “Multi Frame Generation”

“Ray Construction”, “Super Resolution” and “Deep Learning Anti-Aliasing (DLAA)” are supported by all graphics cards. “Frame Generation” remains exclusive to RTX 4000 series graphics cards.

The Reflex 2 function should also be supported by all graphics cards, but will come later. Reflex 2 is intended to reduce latency when gaming.

Which feature of DLSS 5 is exclusive to RTX 5000? However, “DLSS Multi Frame Generation” remains a special feature: This is an extended function of frame generation, which already only supports graphics cards from the RTX 4000 family. With “Multi Frame Generation” not only one image is generated like with frame generation, but three images (frames). This function is reserved for the RTX 5000.

This means: If you still have a graphics card from the RTX 3000 or RTX 2000 series, you can use all functions except “Frame Generation” and “Multi Frame Generation”.

What about AMD graphics cards? AMD’s graphics cards are not supported by DLSS. DLSS is exclusive to Nvidia graphics cards. AMD relies on its own upscaling technology with FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR).
