Elden Ring offers us a unique adventure, with its mythology straight out of the pen of George RR Martin, and its gameplay worthy of From Software games. Only, it is sometimes difficult for a neophyte to navigate his class system. We’re decorating it for you.
Elden Ring, a word that has been on everyone’s lips for quite some time. From Software’s latest creation ignites the imagination and desires of gamers around the world, won over by its unique atmosphere and mysterious world. The game offers for the first time in the history of the revered studio From Software an open-world adventure while maintaining the look and gameplay of an action-RPG. And who says RPG says class system, since Elden Ring offers the player the possibility of choosing the archetype of his character. And, even if these classes only concern the first hours of the game, since the player can subsequently equip himself as he pleases, it is important to know with what kind of character to embark on the murderous world of Elden Ring.
The hero
The Hero is a fairly classic class with which to start your adventure. He starts the game at level 7, and has many points of Strength (16), Endurance (12), Vigor (14) and Esotericism (11). This scion of the Wasteland tribes is equipped with an ax and a leather shield, and works well if you invest a lot of Force points. He will be one of the choices for players who want to cut demons in melee and don’t care about magic.
The Bandit
The Bandit is an archetype quite close to the thief of a classic RPG, he has many points of Agility (13) and Esotericism (14). He starts the game level 5 and is equipped with a knife, a small shield and a bow. He excels in ranged combat thanks to his longbow which gives him a good advantage in the early game. He remains quite weak in hand-to-hand combat, despite his “assassin” aspect, and suffers from too high an amount of Esotericism. It is not recommended for novices.
The Astrologer
The Astrologer is a scholar with an undeniable talent for magic. He is close to a classic mage, and has many points of Intelligence (16), Spirit (15) and Dexterity (12). Excelling in the magic arts, he starts the game level 6 with a sorcery catalyst, a sword and a small shield. The perfect early game choice for aggressive mage players, and a great build for beginners.
The warrior
A name that should speak to anyone. The Warrior is a melee fighter who benefits from a high Dexterity (16) and globally balanced attribute points. An expert in sword fighting and Agility weapons, he begins the game at level 8 with two scimitars and a small shield. He excels in hand-to-hand combat but also in the magic arts, making him an archetype of choice for players who follow a mage/warrior hybrid later in the game.
The prisoner
Probably one of the most unique archetypes in Elden Ring, the prisoner is a former noble, boasting very balanced stats aside from his high amounts of Dexterity and Intelligence (14) and low level of Faith (5) . He begins the level 9 game armed with a catalytic staff and a round iron shield. With its atypical design and its strongly magic-oriented gameplay, it will also be a class of choice for mage enthusiasts, while benefiting from good statistics for hand-to-hand combat. A very good choice for lovers of hybrid builds.
The Confessor
The Confessor is, unlike the prisoner, a class benefiting from very high amounts of Faith (14) and extremely high statistics (13 Spirit, 12 Dexterity, 12 Strength, 10 Vigor and Endurance. ..). He starts the game at level 10 armed with a sword and shield and has good faith caster abilities. This is a class that excels in hybrid combat, mixing good melee combat with effective spells.
the Samurai
How to miss the Samurai in Elden Ring? This is an extremely complete class, possessing excellent amounts of Dexterity (15), Strength (12), Vigor (12), and Endurance (13). Undoubtedly on his way to becoming one of the most popular classes in the game, he begins his adventure armed with a katana and a longbow and a wooden shield. His armor and shield make him a sturdy choice for the first few hours of play, despite not having any spells.
The Needy
Want to walk around in your underpants and hit anything that moves with your big club? The Indigent is for you. An essential class in all From Software games, the Indigent begins the game at level 1, with 10 points in each attribute, armed only with his club and completely naked. It will be the choice of souls-like veterans, but also of those who want to fully build their character and take on a more difficult challenge. It is strongly discouraged for beginners being solid as a chip.
The Vagabond
The Vagabond is the closest archetype to the classic knight. He benefits from good resistances in the early game thanks to his high amount of Stamina (15), his heavy armor and his solid shield. He is an excellent choice for beginners, despite his apparent slowness, being relatively busy at the start of the game. It starts the game at level 9, is an excellent choice for any kind of build, especially hybrid builds, despite its lack of early game spells.
The Prophet
The Prophet is clearly the healer of the group. Because of this, it excels in co-op and struggles a bit more in solo play. He benefits from very high amounts of Faith (17) and Spirit (14) and is somewhat the equivalent of the Astrologer on the mages side. He starts the game with a spear, shield, and incantation catalyst. He can also benefit from more “aggressive” spells during the game. It does, however, suffer from ridiculously low melee damage.
