Sunscreen is essential to protect babies from the sun and its misdeeds. Even if it is advisable to avoid exposing children to the sun before the age of 3-4 years to avoid the risks (among others) of skin cancer and intolerance to the sun, it is difficult to walking while staying in the shade at all times and having a parasol close at hand at all times. This is why babies and children should be dressed in light-coloured covering clothing, even anti-UV clothing, put on a hat and sunglasses and of course protect them with a suitable sunscreen. This must be applied generously every two hours, and not just in summer: in winter, when the sun is out, there are harmful UV rays! For long winter walks, especially in the snow, it is therefore necessary to put some too. When swimming, brush the children as soon as they get out of the water, on a regular basis. But how to choose the right sunscreen for a child? First of all, the protection index which must be a SPF 50 (or SPF 50+). Also prefer a fragrance-free sunscreen to minimize the risk of skin allergy. The ideal is to choose a product stamped “for babies” or “for children”, whose formulation will be adapted to their fragile skin. For sensitive skin, non-nano mineral filters are best. You can also opt for water-resistant sunscreen, so that the skin is always protected from the sun during swimming. Finally, there are also “anti-sand” sun creams, that is to say that they are less sticky than others, which prevents the grains from adhering to the skin.
