The Pokémon GO Fest 2022 took place over the weekend. For many, this is a chance to get the coveted Shinys. After the festival is over, we look at the reactions on MeinMMO: Some German trainers are very disappointed, others downright relieved. How you feel probably depends on whether you bought a ticket for €17 or not. And luck with the Shinys.

When did the event take place?

  • The event lasted 8 hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on June 4th and 5th.
  • Pokémon GO Fest is considered one of the highlights of each year in Pokémon GO.

    What’s the deal with the ticket? You can visit the GO Fest for free – however, it is then not possible to take all the bonuses with you.

    If you want to take full advantage of the event, you have to buy a ticket for around €17. This ticket includes, among other things, an increased chance of catching a Shiny. These are “shiny” and highly sought-after Pokémon.

    How are the reactions? For many players, how they perceived Pokémon GO Fest 2022 will depend heavily on two factors:

  • Did you buy a ticket for €17 or not?
  • How many Shiny Pokémon have they caught – and how many of them are “new”?

    • “Ticket is not worth it” – 83% of readers buy ticket

    These people are more likely to be satisfied: After the GO Fest there are repeated statements from players who see their decision not to buy a ticket confirmed.

    At the same time, many regret getting a ticket and swear they will never do it again. Many “shiny hunters” in particular have apparently hardly noticed the increased drop chance.

    In our popular survey on MeinMMO, we saw that the vast majority of participants in the survey bought a ticket:

  • 5295, 4,383 got a ticket – almost 83%.
  • But the majority of the ticket buyers, 2700 people, only caught between 0 and 6 Shinys.
  • Only a vanishingly small number of 400 trainers can be satisfied with a yield of over 21 shinys: that is only 9% of all ticket buyers

    The shiny yield is felt by many to be too little for their use:

  • “I think it’s a shame: After the first stage I got 2 Shinys and the next day 2 more and one of them was what I already had. I caught Milza more than 20 times and got a Shiny – and that with a ticket.”
  • A user of MeinMMO sees it particularly critical: “The festival was a single scam! Players with an increased shiny rate lure them into buying an overpriced ticket.”
  • Even relatively successful players are reporting that their expectations haven’t been met: “Unbelievable… I’m really disappointed […] of my 7 wild Shinys, 6 were old.”

    Who is happy with the party? Coaches who deliberately didn’t buy a ticket seem happy with their decision now:

  • A MeinMMO reader criticizes Niantic for being so opaque and not clearly communicating the shiny rate. Until that changes, he wants to refrain from buying a ticket.
  • Reader Ascy says:

    • I didn’t buy the ticket […] I was able to catch a total of 8 over the weekend and am happy with that. The weekend itself was good, I was able to meet some new people, the research was very interesting and there were some Pokémon to catch that are otherwise rarely or not at all catchable.

    There are also players who bought a ticket and then got their money’s worth, but they are relatively rare.

    In general, the mood given by the comments on MeinMMO also seems to reflect the mood of the trainers worldwide: Anyone who bought a ticket expecting to take full advantage of the “high shiny bonus” is rather disappointed. There is even talk of a “terrible party.”
