For those who are still waiting for fiber optics, in the city and in the countryside, its deployment can seem endless, while operators have been promoting it for a decade already. However, the government is counting on very high speed (at least 30 Mbps) for all by the end of 2022 and the generalization of fiber by 2025. As such, the State has just put in place a recovery plan of 570 million euros. According to Arcep, at the end of 2021 France had 17.5 million fiber optic subscribers out of the 31.3 million high and very high speed Internet access in France. This therefore represents more than half, without taking into account households not eligible for broadband. “In total, the number of very high speed subscriptions represents 56% of all high speed and very high speed internet subscriptions (+ 11 points in one year)”, specified Arcep in its 2021 report.
