Confusion in Lebanon! The citizens who broke into the bank took their money and left. Extensive precautions were taken by the security forces at the scene. Last month in Beirut, a gunman took the bank’s employees hostage all day because he could not withdraw his money from the bank. Here are the shocking images and all the details from the bank raid…
ATTACKED OFFICIALS
Dozens of victims of banks gathered in the Sodeco region of the capital Beirut, and protested in front of a private bank where their money was found.
According to the images published on local and social media, the activists who demonstrated for a while then entered the bank and attacked the officers at the toll booths.
BANK AND ATM DAMAGED
According to the information received by the AA correspondent in the incident area, the demonstrators who entered the bank took some money from the cashiers and left the scene after a while. The bank and its surroundings were besieged by the security forces.
It was observed that the bank branch, which was closed after the action, and the ATM in front of it were damaged.
“He took our money hostage for 3 years”
On the other hand, some demonstrators continue to protest in the region with banners in their hands.
Speaking to reporters here, an activist said, “The bank has taken our money hostage for 3 years. My sister has cancer and I need money for her. We have been waiting for our money to be paid for 3 years.” said.
WHAT HAPPENED?
As of 2019, all foreign currency deposit accounts in Lebanon were frozen in order to prevent the melting of foreign currency reserves.
Then, the Central Bank of Lebanon announced in November 2021 that citizens could withdraw their money at a limited and government-determined rate.
In the country where incidents took place from time to time due to these developments, a person in the capital Beirut took the bank employees hostage all day with a gun because he could not withdraw his money from the bank, and then surrendered.
