Since the start of War in Ukrainethe shadow of Russia hangs over several central and eastern European countries. Disinformation campaigns on social networks, corruption, economic pressure … The magnifying glass offers an overview of these different threats through the example of four countries: Romania, Moldova, Georgia and Slovakia.
Episode 1: Romania in the face of disinformation
A few weeks ago, like more than 15 million French people, I was in front of my television to listen to Emmanuel Macron’s speech. The President of the Republic addressed the French in a complex international context: the return of Donald Trump, the rapprochement with Russia, the tensions between Washington and kyiv.
And a passage challenged me: “Russia tries to manipulate our opinions, with lies broadcast on social networks. And basically, it tests our limits and it does it in the air, in the sea, in space and behind our screens. This aggressiveness does not seem to know borders”
In Europe, in particular, Russia is accused of interference. And all the methods are good to extend your influence.
