When Peter Forsberg got a golden chance – and stood for the all-time mockery of Finland against rival Teemu Selänne

Last minute The world stood up after Putins decision in

Peter Forsberg got a golden chance.
Then he took it – with the most beautiful mockery of Finland against Teemu Selänne ever.

November 8 was a special day in Finnish sports history. Jarkko Nieminen, Finland’s greatest tennis player of all time, would play his very last match, against one of the greatest of all time, Roger Federer.

Foppas incredible burn

And it was an evening to remember – with a really celebratory visit. Not only did Federer and Nieminen meet; before the match, Teemu Selänne and Peter Forsberg also participated to play with the tennis icons in a double match. The two hockey icons are friends today, but were often bitter enemies on the ice, not least when Tre Kronor and Finland met in various major tournaments.

Before the match, the quartet met a united press corps, and it was not long before the mockery hailed. Peter Forsberg began by saying that tennis is his main sport, but he also found a golden opportunity to push his old rival, and as he did.

– I have told Federer that if we are down 1-5 then there are no problems… Do not worry, Forsberg said.

Still mocked

Forsberg of course referred to the unforgettable turn that Tre Kronor made against Finland in the World Cup in 2003, when they turned 1-5 to 6-5. Selänne, however, got the last laugh when he, together with Nieminen, won against Foppa and Federer.

– It was a revenge. Today it was Foppa’s turn to leave the arena as a loser. That was my goal of the day, apart from having fun, Selänne said with a laugh.

But even that time, Peter Forsberg came up with a really wonderful answer to speech.

– Well… I would rather lose a tennis match than a hockey match.
