With four SM golds, two WC golds and an Olympic bronze, let’s see Peter “Pekka” Lindmark as one of Swedish hockey’s absolute best and most meritorious goalkeepers ever. The Kiruna son has also been named the world’s best goalkeeper twice.

Pekka Lindmark was very successful in the SHL during the 80s and 90s, where he spent most of the time in Ferry town and Malmö. But it wasn’t just the performances on the ice that made Pekka stand out. The goalkeeper also became a very popular profile thanks to his extravagant and lovely personality.

As Begin and Stig Salming, who also grew up in Kiruna, Pekka played in Kiruna AIF. But because several of the latter’s friends played in rival IFK Kiruna, there was an early change. At the age of 22 it was Timrå, followed by Färjestad and Malmö. Pekka also stood for long and faithful service in Tre Kronor, where he played over 170 matches.

But Pekka Lindmark was not only a fantastically good goalkeeper. He also had an extreme cold. When his Ferry Town met Södertälje in the fifth and decisive SC final in 1986, he would offer the fans something completely extra.

Pekka Lindmark received the puck just outside his own goal cage at the same time as the opponent Anders “The Mask” Carlsson thought he read where the goalie would fit the puck. But Lindmark had other plans and was responsible for one of the coldest actions Swedish hockey has ever seen.
