Magnus Samuelsson was considered during the late 1990s as one of the world’s absolute strongest men. Then TV4 decided to invite the bastards from Östergötland to the hit program “Prisoners at the fort”.
And we have probably never seen anyone dominate in such a way as Samuelsson did then.
We have all seen “Prisoners at the fort”, which during the 1990s was one of Sweden’s most popular programs – and which still stands strong today, even though it has now been over 20 years. As you know, the program consists of famous Swedes being invited to Fort Boyard, which is a fortress located off the French coast.
The world’s strongest man
During his career as an active took Magnus Samuelsson home the title as the world’s strongest man in 1998 – and has also been on the podium on five occasions. In addition to that, he has been named Sweden’s strongest man a total of nine times, the first award came in 1995.

Samuelsson has competed a lot abroad, where he has lined up fine positions and podium places over the years during his 13-year career.
But “The Giant Swede” has not only participated in events involving strength – he has also appeared in several television productions and films in addition to his four-time appearance in “The Prisoners of the Fort”. An example of that is his performance in “Let’s Dance” in 2009 – a competition which he incidentally won. Samuelsson has previously also received a request for a role in the blockbuster “Gladiator”, which he however turned down.

Brutal strength
And speaking of the “Prisoners at the fort”. Something we remember very strongly is when Magnus Samuelsson was there to participate in the program – and which he delivered. We find perhaps the most iconic and unforgettable moment about 40 seconds into the video.

It’s about when Samuelsson first has to pull a long sword out of a stump and then get hold of a key by cutting a rope with the sword. An action that apparently looks quite difficult. But not for Magnus Samuelsson, who completely dominated the challenge and made it look like a breeze.
