When is One Piece season 2 coming to Netflix? The new episodes are exactly a huge problem in the way

One Piece is a franchise of superlatives. Eiichiro Oda’s pirate epic is not only the best-selling manga of all time, but also the inspiration for an anime series that has continued to delight fans for over 20 years and 1000 episodes. On August 31, 2023, the first live-action adaptation of the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) and his Straw Hats began on Netflix.

Will there be a One Piece season 2 on Netflix?

The great age of pirates and the story of Monkey D. Luffy is far from over after the first eight episodes. Because season 1 only adapts a fraction of the epic storyline of the template – actually the first 100 manga chapters of currently 1090! (As of August 2023).

There is more than enough material for further seasons. But there is one more One Piece season 2 not in the towel. The live-action adaptation is one of the most expensive Netflix series ever. The streaming service will therefore first wait for the access numbers within the first few weeks after the start.

However, given the tremendous popularity of the One Piece brand, we can assume Netflix has bigger plans for the series. But there’s a big problemwhich is currently standing in the way of a season 2 extension: the Hollywood strike of the scriptwriters and actors’ unions.

Only when the strike is over should we expect a final decision on the future of One Piece. Because during the strike, the authors and actors involved cannot negotiate any new contracts.

When could One Piece season 2 start on Netflix?

Should Netflix order another season of One Piece in the near future, fans will still have to be prepared for an agonizingly long wait. Even the production of the first season of the fantasy pirate adventure was extremely time-consuming.

Working on a season of One Piece can take up to 24 months. Filming the first eight episodes alone took almost eight months. Due to the complex post-production, it took another 12 months until the start.

If we take Season 1 as an example, and ideally filming the next episodes will start early next year, then it could One Piece season 2 on Netflix in summer 2025 at the earliest land.
