Sci-Fi sequel: When does Dune 3 start in cinemas?
Denis Villeneuve’s third Dune film has not yet been officially announced. This means that there is still no theatrical release date for part 3 of the sci-fi series. As is so often the case Sequel depends on the success of its predecessor, i.e. the audience numbers and the box office result. After all, Dune 2 is said to have cost a total of 190 million dollars, which isn’t just thrown out the window, even in Hollywood.
Euphoric critics’ reactions “one of the best sci-fi films” of all time and the ratings records of a sequel (97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes), which were set before the film’s release, indicated success even before the first ticket was purchased. Hopefully the announcement of Dune 3 will follow soon.

Dune 2 sets up Dune 3 with Paul and Chani
Director Denis Villeneuve has already made his intentions regarding Dune 3 clear: he is very keen, to complete his Paul trilogy with a third sci-fi film and its stars are also keen to return. The filmmaker is currently working on the script, but doesn’t want to rush into the next part, which could cause the quality to suffer. Although the book series continues (but then shifts its character focus), part 3 would be Villeneuve’s last Dune film.
So when is Dune 3 expected to launch?
Dune 2 followed Dune two and a half years. However, Villeneuve announced that he would take a break after Dune 2 and shoot another project in between. That means we’ll probably have to stay up late Dune: Part Three wait. Industry insider Jeff Snider still claims to have found out that Warner has already given Dune 3 the green light behind the scenes and (at the earliest). Cinema release 2027 targeted. However, like any leak, this information should be treated with caution.
Before Dune 3, we can also expect the spin-off series set 10,000 years earlier, probably at the end of 2024 Dune: The Prophecy to the sisterhood of the Bene Gesserit.
Dune Messiah: What happens next after Dune 2 in the third part?
Because Frank Herbert’s first Dune novel was filmed in two parts, the third film is based on Volume 2: Dune Messiah *which in German has the title The lord of the desert planet * carries. In total, the sci-fi author wrote 6 Dune books *, which his son Brian Herbert later expanded to include additional stories from the universe.

Dune 3 brings back Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet).
The novel Dune Messiah sets 12 years after the events of Dune a. After his victory over the Harkonnen and the tragic end including his wedding to Princess Irulan, Paul “Muad’Dib” Atreides rules as Emperor. He has finally become the figurehead of the Fremen religion. His Holy War has conquered much of the known universe. 61 billion people have died. Even with his gift of seeing into the future, Paul cannot find a way to deviate from this course.
With Chani as his great love, but not as a wife, Paul refuses to father children with his official wife Irulan. Paul already foresaw a reconciliation with Chani in Dune 2. Meanwhile a conspiracy is brewing: The Bene Gesserit under Mother Superior Helen Mohiam, the Spacemen’s Guild and the Tleilaxu geneticists want to dethrone Paul. As a means of doing so, they think of a gift that the Emperor cannot refuse: a ghola human clone. This man named Hayt is in their service, but takes the form of Paul’s old, deceased friend and teacher Duncan Idaho.
In addition, Paul’s now older sister Alia, who is also supernaturally gifted, is not the only one Atreides offspringwhich comes into play.
Sci-Fi cast: Which stars are in the cast of Dune 3 (again)?
At the press conference for Dune 2, the entire cast was enthusiastic about another Dune return. Some, like Léa Seydoux, were actually dying to finally find out more about their mysterious characters through Part 3. Consequently, if nothing comes up, the line-up looks like this:

Whether we have Stephen McKinley Henderson as Thufir Hawat reunion is unclear after he was cut from Dune 2. Also, actor Tim Blake Nelson’s appearance didn’t make it into part 2…but maybe part 3?

You can currently stream Denis Villeneuve’s first Dune film on Netflix. Part 2 can currently only be seen in cinemas. A streaming or home cinema release for the sci-fi sequel is not yet known.
