When Henke got the entire hockey world to tan with five beautiful words – after the worst save of his career

Henrik Lundqvist saved a shot – with his neck.
Afterwards, he made the entire hockey world tantalize with the most eloquent words.

Henrik Lundqvist was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame the first year he was available, and that was truly the ultimate proof of what a great career he had. Lundqvist is one of Swedish hockey’s greatest, and few can measure up to his merits.

King of New York

He got his big breakthrough in Frölunda, but it is above all with the New York Rangers that he is associated with. Lundqvist took over the first spade in the mid-2000s – and then did not let it go for more than 15 years. In the meantime, the Swede managed to become one of the NHL’s most popular players, and the face of the entire New York Rangers.

Henrik Lundqvist was a winner who always gave his all to the team. His incredible will to get better drove the entire Rangers forward, and it rarely mattered what adversity he encountered. And he wasn’t exactly the one whining unnecessarily… The clearest proof came in a game in 2015, when all of New York held its breath after some really nasty scenes.

Painful rescue

Henrik Lundqvist saved a shot right with his throat in a game against the Carolina Hurricanes. Henke flew down to the ice, and afterwards he admitted that he was having trouble breathing.

– I didn’t get enough oxygen for a while there, it was nasty, he said.

But if there was some unnecessary whining? No. Lundqvist was soon back on his feet, and the Rangers won the game 4-1. Henke himself? He made 31(!) saves.

Lundqvist was named the star of the match, and afterwards he was as resourceful as only he can be. On Twitter, he posted a zoomed-in picture of the puck hitting his neck, and he wrote, quite aptly:
“At least I saved it”.

He then continued:

“I probably stick to soup today, but it still feels good. Thanks for all the greetings!”.
