When Glenn Hysén was flown to England to play the match of the century together with Diego Maradona

Glenn Hysén is one of Swedish football’s foremost.
And he never forgets when he got the chance to play alongside Diego Maradona himself.
– You only get to be a part of this once in your life, he described the “Match of the Century”.

The good one Glenn Hysen has been involved in most things over the years. He has written sports history with a masterful effort at Wembley that gave an impossible sixth grade, he has played football in Florence and Liverpool, won the Uefa Cup twice with IFK Göteborg and competed in “Let’s Dance” and “Farmen”.

All focus was of course on Maradona, who was due to return to England just a year after sending the country out of the 1986 World Cup with the controversial ‘Hand of God’ goal. The big talking point was also the huge price sum that the Argentine would receive for playing the exhibition match, namely a whopping 900,000 kroner, which means 10,000 per minute.

While the two Swedes were rumored to only receive 50,000 kroner in salary to play with the world team.
– I know how much I get – but I don’t know if it’s official…, Glenn Hysén said mysteriously to the evening newspaper.
– I actually don’t know… I’m an amateur too, said Peter Larsson with a laugh and he was also the only amateur player in the world team.
