When Foppa was on the lazy side for once – and was scolded after notes by the goalkeeper icon: “It’s his fault”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Peter Forsberg is not exactly known for lying on the lazy side of the ice. But during a Stanley Cup playoff with the Colorado Avalanche, “Foppa” went at half speed to conserve energy.
Then he was scolded by the goalkeeping icon Patrick Roy.
– I had to apologize, says Forsberg in the hockey podcast Spittin’ Chiclets.

Probably not many people make the connection Peter Forsberg with half-hearted efforts and dirty play, rather the opposite. His tough playing style and big winner’s skull took him to the absolute top of the world, and the Swedish forward has won countless awards both with his clubs and in the national team, and also individually.

Was scolded

But sometimes even a perpetual motion machine like “Foppa” needs to catch up a bit. In a Stanley Cup playoff game during his time with the Colorado Avalanche, the team had gone through a tough battle against the Dallas Stars, and Forsberg felt that he was not at the peak of his physical ability for the third meeting against the San Jose Sharks.
– We won the first two games against San Jose and I wanted to take it easy after the games against Dallas, says Peter Forsberg in the hockey podcast Spittin’ Chiclets.

But he wouldn’t have done that, so take it easy. Forsberg quickly learned that wasn’t very popular with some of his teammates, especially the iconic goalkeeper Patrick Roy.
– We lost the next two games and I remember coming into the dressing room and asking ‘why are we down?’, and Patrick Roy stood up, pointed at me and said ‘It’s his fault, he’s not even trying’ .

“Had to apologize”

“Foppa” says that Patrick Roy probably “exposed” him because of his observation from his position as a goalkeeper.
– I think he had full control from his position as goalkeeper. I tried to counter by saying “last year in matches six and seven I was completely exhausted, so I thought I’d save myself for the semi-finals now”. But he didn’t buy it, so I had to apologize there.
