Having met Cassian Andor in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, we now learn the backstory of the eventual Rebel Captain. Where is he from? What did he do? And what things move him in his heart? To explore these questions, Andor dives in the past of the Star Wars character.
When exactly does Andor take place on the Star Wars timeline?
Andor is chronologically placed between the prequels and the original trilogy. Concretely puts the story five years before Rogue One a. The twelve episodes of Season 1 cover exactly one year in the life of Cassian Andor (Diego Luna). The other four years leading up to Rogue One will be covered in the show’s second season.
With that, the plot of Andor is almost exclusive for the time being in the year 5 VSY (i.e. five years before the Battle of Yavin and the destruction of the first Death Star in Star Wars). In addition, we can expect individual flashbacks that go even further into the past and show us Cassian as a teenager.

How exactly does the Star Wars calendar work?
The Battle for Yavin acts as big turning point on the Star Wars timeline. All earlier and later events are related in chronological order to the destruction of the first Death Star.
Star Wars, which was the first film in the star saga to be released in cinemas, is still the big one over four decades Hinge in the Star Wars era. This hasn’t changed with the new canon, which has eliminated all stories from the Expanded Universe (aka Star Wars Legends).
What is the correct Star Wars order?
The original release of each Star Wars story does not necessarily align with that chronological sequence of events. The best example is the original trilogy, which was released between 1977 and 1983 but is later than the prequel trilogy, which was released between 1999 and 2005.
All Star Wars movies and series in order
More series will expand the Star Wars timeline in the future. Ahsoka follows on from the events of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, while also bringing back several characters from Star Wars Rebels. The Acolyte is also particularly exciting. Here we find ourselves 100 years before Episode 1.
Andor season 1 starts today, on September 21, 2022at Disney+.
