Anders Limpar is one of our most iconic players. He was the midfielder who, with his speed and delicious technique, took Swedish football by storm, and it led him to some of the world’s absolute biggest leagues and matches.

Anders Limpar made his debut in the Swedish national team back in 1987, and three years later he took the most unexpected step to the big club Arsenal. Anders Limpar immediately became a crowd favorite, and the fact that he was given the nickname “Super Swede” says a lot about just that. Limpar scored a total of eleven goals in his debut season, and in 1991 he also won the league. Limpar won the Golden Ball for his incredible year, but it was far from his last major triumph before his career ended.
Anders Limpar left Arsenal for Everton, and in 1995 the FA Cup final against Manchester United awaited. Perhaps the big club’s biggest star at the time, Eric Cantona, was suspended, but still in place. Cantona was one of the big giants and profiles of the time, known for, among other things, having saved a supporter in the middle of a match, which led to a long suspension.

– I said: “Hope for a good game, Mr Cantona” and held out my right hand. He completely ignored me, just stared straight ahead. I thought: “you arrogant bastard, can’t you just say good luck?”. It became my lighter fluid, I got so damn pumped up, says Limpar to Expressen.
The match then? It won Everton 1-0, and according to Limpar, he has only one man to thank for that. The midfielder was the big giant of the match, and it was only for one reason.
– I just say: “Thank you, Cantona”. I played one of my best games in all the years in England.
