Wheelchair-bound man murdered – relatives denied compensation

In October 2021, a man in a wheelchair was assaulted by several perpetrators at Hisingen in the Gothenburg area. The man later died from his injuries.

Three men were sentenced in August 2022 to life imprisonment, a sentence which for two of the men was later changed to 16 years in prison.

According to the verdict, they allegedly hit and kicked the man after pulling him out of the wheelchair.

The men could not pay

The men were also obliged to pay SEK 60,000 each to the man’s relatives.

Because the men have not been able to pay the sum, the relatives turned to the Crime Victims’ Authority. Now it is clear that there will be no criminal damage compensation for the family, according to the Siren news agency.

The Crime Victims’ Authority justifies the decision with the fact that the perpetrators had bought drugs from the man earlier that day, and that his involvement in criminal activities meant an increased risk of being injured, according to Siren.
