Jerry Rantanen’s family won a trip to the European football championships. The Portuguese player accompanied the boy to the field, and not the other way around, because an accident at home changed the roles.
Ten years old Jerry Rantanen received some surprising information from his parents some time ago. He won a trip to the current European football championships, where the honorable task was to escort the top football player to the field.
The information situation at home was basically mundane. The boy was playing a console game. The point was food. As the family began to eat, the parents told them that they had won a raffle for a grocery store chain aimed at parents of children between 6 and 10 years old.
– It felt strange, but I ate and continued to play, Jerry Rantanen explains his feelings straightforwardly.
The slip stuck in the cast
Now the special race trip also involves Rantanen’s leg – and slipping on the platform. Five days before the expected trip to Frankfurt, Jerry Rantanen slipped. In that hassle, the toes got stuck between the piers. Three toes and a foot were hit.
The doctor’s verdict was a cast and a changing bench.
Despite the difficulties, the trip came true. And Jerry Rantanen also made it to the European Championship football field. He was waiting for the Portuguese player as an escort at the side of the field in a wheelchair.
– It was a bit special when I had to escort a player to the field, but it happened that he accompanied me to the field in a wheelchair.
However, the atmosphere was wonderful. The stands were bursting with people. Screams of encouragement echoed in the ears.
– At that point it was no longer exciting, Rantanen says.
The end result was sad
Suddenly Jerry Rantanen confesses. He did not support Portugal, whose player escorted him to the field.
– I supported Slovenia, the underdog of the game. I do like the Portuguese players, but not Portugal as a team, he formulates diplomatically.
Watching the match continued from the stands.
– The game was tight, but Portugal won. It hurt a lot.
The cast is still on the leg for at least 2–3 weeks. It means that Ranta will not be seen at the Pori Cup football event.
