A wheelchair-bound resident of a service home in Västerås fell into a pool on Christmas Eve. The person was quickly helped up, but died two days later, reports Vlt.

The cause of death has not been determined, it is not clear if the fall in the pool was behind it. An investigation according to lex Sarah must be carried out to find out shortcomings and what could have been done so that the whole thing could have been avoided.

The person entered an unguarded pool area adjacent to the serviced residence through a broken and unlocked door which, according to the routines, should actually have been locked, according to the newspaper. During the day, the pool area and gym are open to residents and the public, but must be locked at other times.

For an unknown reason, the wheelchair-bound man fell into the pool but was rescued by the staff at the accommodation who heard him calling. The person then held on to the edge of the pool.

The resident was examined in hospital after the fall in the pool but was discharged that night. The next day he was admitted again and died on the second day.
