WhatsApp will soon allow you to send ephemeral voice messages, which are automatically deleted immediately after being listened to. Good news to prevent compromising recordings from leaking!

Meta continues to add new security features to WhatsApp, its fully encrypted instant messaging service. The latter already offers numerous options to guarantee the confidentiality of its users’ content, such as ephemeral messages, the possibility of blocking screenshots for certain messages, the Chat Lock confidentiality mode or even passkeys, a technology which allows you allows you to connect to websites without a password, using your biometric data (see our article). The company clearly does not intend to stop there! The specialized site WABetaInfo spotted in WhatsApp beta version 2.23.22.4 for Android and beta version 23.21.1.73 for iOS – available only through TestFlight, Apple’s system for installing pre-release versions of apps – that it It is now possible to send ephemeral voice messages – they can only be listened to once. A function that already exists for photos and videos, and which has been expected for almost a year for text messages – in vain. A good way to prevent your personal or sensitive information from falling into the wrong hands!

WhatsApp ephemeral voices: messages to listen to only once

When you record a voice in locked mode – by pressing the microphone icon at the bottom right of the screen then pressing the padlock – you can now see a new “See once” icon in the bar. record, in the form of a “1”. When pressed, the voice note is sent in “single view” mode, so the recipient cannot export, transfer, save or save it. Neither he nor you can listen to it a second time because it is automatically deleted after opening.

This mode helps minimize the risk of audio disclosure, providing a new level of privacy for sensitive and confidential information. Quite practical when you reveal a compromising story and you want to be sure that it is shared! We do not yet have a deployment date to the general public: this option will be available in a few weeks… or in a few months.
