WhatsApp is stepping on Facebook’s toes and now allows you to create events within private groups and Communities. Here’s how to do it!
One of WhatsApp’s main strengths remains its ability to organize group discussions. A simple operation and very useful when it comes to communicating with several people at the same time. And the occasions are multiple: preparing a birthday party, a group outing, organizing an event, chatting with several family members or dialoguing with several colleagues to carry out a project… The instant messaging also hosts Communities, a sort of subgroup in a group. This is very practical for managing several conversations around a very specific subject. For example, members of a restaurant can form their community and create a discussion thread for the chefs, a discussion thread for the waiters in the dining room and one for the entire team. The same goes for a class, which can access a channel for mutual help with homework, one for teacher announcements, one for absences, etc.
To make WhatsApp more user-friendly and practical, Meta took direct inspiration from Facebook and decided to integrate into the instant messaging service a function allowing you to create an event within a Community, before extending it to private discussion groups. An option that should quickly prove itself in both personal and professional uses.
How to create an event in a group on WhatsApp?
Any member of a group can set up an event, which will then appear in the chat thread. All information about it will then become available in the group information, and to make sure that no one forgets about the event, WhatsApp will send a notification to participants shortly before it takes place. For security reasons, all details are always end-to-end encrypted, ensuring that only the participants in the group chat have access to the information. Here’s how to create an event in a WhatsApp group:
► Launch the WhatsApp application on your smartphone.
► Go to the group in which you want to create an event.
► Press the paperclip icon in the input field – the one that allows you to insert attachments – if you are on Android, or on the + if you are on iOS.
► A menu will drop down above the input field. Press Eventsymbolized by a calendar.
► Enter the event name, description (optional), date, time and location. You can choose to enable a group call link if you wish.
► Press the green arrow at the bottom right of your screen to validate your event.
► The event is then displayed in the discussion.
► To delete it, press Edit eventthen on Cancel the event.
