WhatsApp is starting to roll out Message Yourself, a new feature that lets you write… to yourself! A strange option at first glance, but already present in many messaging systems and, above all, very useful on a daily basis.

WhatsApp continues the deployment of its long list of novelties in 2022 with a function allowing the user to send a message to himself, as reported TechCrunch. It may sound strange said like that, but it is nevertheless very practical, whether for taking notes, for making shopping lists or for storing files, videos and images. Many platforms and applications already offer it, such as iMessage, Microsoft Teams, Discord, Messenger, Slack or Instagram. On the instant messaging side, Signal embeds the “Note to me” option and Telegram has a “Saved messages” function. WhatsApp is therefore very late at this level!

WhatsApp Message Yourself: send yourself a message

Until now, WhatsApp did not allow you to simply and officially send a message to yourself. It was of course possible to bypass the system, by sending a note from the web browser without entering the recipient’s number, then inserting his own number from a special URL. Another method was to create a group conversation and then remove the other participants to keep only yourself. Not very practical and fast therefore. From now on, the Message Yourself function (“Send yourself a message” in French) allows you to communicate with yourself with a simple touch of your finger. Just start a new conversation and, when the contact list appears, select your own profile, which appears at the very top. A discussion, completely encrypted, then opens. To take advantage of this option, you must have at least version 22.23.74 on iOS or version 2.22.23.77 on Android of WhatsApp. Don’t panic if they haven’t arrived yet since Meta is currently rolling out the feature to all of these users. They should therefore arrive in the coming weeks.

Message Yourself makes WhatsApp a true note-taking app. It’s great for sending each other everything you want to remember, like ideas, shopping lists, interesting links, videos, photos, reminders, appointments and other important information. In addition, it is possible to pin a message in order to leave it at the top of the list and thus be sure not to forget it. And unlike an application that only takes notes, Meta’s instant messaging also allows content to be stored in order to facilitate their access on other media, such as a computer for example. It’s much easier than sending a ton of emails, especially since WhatsApp is used dozens, even hundreds of times a day to communicate with friends or family.
