According to freelancer Makwan Amirkhani, nothing has been heard from Chris Fishgold for a few years, but suddenly at the end of September 2023, the Liverpool man let himself be heard on Instagram.
The number one name in Finnish freestyle Makwan Amirkhani experienced a surprise when a former opponent Chris Fishgold began to challenge the dispute on social media in September. The defeated Briton wants a rematch.
Amirkhani and Fishgold fought each other at the Stockholm UFC event 2019. The match ended at the end of the second round, when the Briton’s efforts on the mat ended with Amirkhani’s bravado, i.e. anaconda choke. Fishgold has been left with a bitter taste from the encounter.
– You ran away the whole match, even in a hurry. It was a one-sided beating until you got lucky with the stranglehold. Sign our match contract, Fishgold wrote after uploading a photo of the two staring at each other on Instagram.
Amirkhani now tells that there is no match contract on the table even to be signed.
“Mr. Finland” has responded to the shouting on social media, saying that the Liverpool native can live the rest of his life knowing that Amirkhani was the better of the two.
Amirkhani has been offered a rematch by Fishgold’s manager in Manchester on the night of the Octagon promotion on November 4th. The UFC contract of the Finnish fighter training in Raisio ended in March with a loss To Jack Shore. A new opponent is being sought.
– Let’s bring it (Fishgold) here. What the hell is the point of us Finns going to fight in Manchester, take the money and the boom there? Amirkhani asks.
According to Amirkhani, who has 17 wins and 9 losses in his professional career, Fishgold’s behavior in the previous match was inferior.
Amirkhani says that Fishgold came to challenge the dispute even on the street before the 2019 match.
– He was right in front of my face. There were members of my team there and I said “take it easy, tomorrow is the match and I will take care of him there”.
– Then he lost, and suddenly he was nice and kind. Now the same shitting, barking and name-calling started again, Amirkhani continues.
At first, Amirkhani is leery of the idea of facing Fishgold, but as the interview progresses, he begins to speculate about a possible rematch.
– You could organize the match night alone, or not alone, but you could find people to create an evening where the main match would be against Fishgold on my home field. So it should be in Finland and subject to doping control, the 34-year-old spins.
Meeting a former UFC competitor would be a small risk, as Amirkhani is participating in the million-euro Octagon tournament in the spring, where he must arrive healthy.
– Fishgold should not be underestimated, Amirkhani states.
