The block draw for the FIFA World Cup will be held tonight. The Men’s World Cup will be played in Qatar from November 21-18. December 2022.

The World Cup will be played for the first time outside of May, June or July. The reason is the summer heat in Qatar.

29 out of 32 countries have survived. The European Qualifiers are still partly in the middle of the war in Ukraine. The last team from Europe to compete in the Qatar race will survive the summer when Wales face the winner of the Ukraine-Scotland match.

Two more countries will survive the intercontinental qualifiers in the summer.

Race host Qatar is the only country to debut at the World Cup.

The European qualifiers used to see a huge surprise when the reigning European champion Italy was eliminated from the World Cup after losing to his home field in northern Macedonia. Italy also didn’t make it to the 2018 World Cup. Italy is the only former world champion not to play in Qatar.

Prior to the block draw in Doha tonight, the countries have been divided into four draw baskets. One land from each basket will be drawn for each block.

In the first basket are the race host Qatar and the seven best countries in the Fifa ranking. In the second basket are the best of the next eight rankings and so on.

There are three more vacancies in the fourth basket, which will be filled by one European country (Scotland, Ukraine or Wales) and the winners of the intercontinental qualifiers.

Countries are drawn in such a way that teams from the same continental federation cannot be in the same blocks. The exception is Europe, where two countries can be in the same block.

The most successful country that is not in the first lottery basket is Germany.

Based on the Fifa rankings, the hardest possible block would be created by placing Brazil, Mexico, Senegal and Canada in the same block.

On the basis of the draw baskets, the revenge of the 2018 World Cup final in France-Croatia, the 2014 World Cup final in Argentina-Germany or the 2010 World Cup final in Spain-Netherlands could be seen in the same starting block.

The latest Fifa men’s rankings were released on Thursday. Brazil overtook Belgium at the top of the rankings. France is third, Argentina is fourth, England is fifth, Italy is sixth, Spain is seventh, Portugal is ninth, and Mexico is ninth.

As in the previous list, Finland ranks 57th, followed by Denmark in 11th place and Sweden in 19th place.

Denmark made it to the World Cup directly as the winner of its own qualifying round. Sweden did not make it to the World Cup when it lost to Poland in the qualifiers on Tuesday.
