A knife attack in Mulhouse on Saturday killed one and five injured. The main suspect, in an irregular situation, was arrested, encouraging the government to organize an interministerial council on immigration on Wednesday.
The attack occurred in a flash. The assault, which caused one dead and five injured on Saturday February 22 in Mulhouse, took place in just “ten minutes”. At 3:40 pm, a man armed with a knife and a screwdriver seriously injured two parking officers by shouting “Allahou Akbar”, in the lively district around the Cunning Canal market. Ten minutes after the first facts, a few streets away, municipal police managed to neutralize the assailant with a baton, according to information given by the Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau. Four police custody was underway on Sunday, February 23, including that of the assailant, said the National Anti -terrorist Prosecutor’s Office (PNAT) on Sunday.
He had already been tried and was the subject of an OQTF
“They did it with absolutely remarkable composure,” said the Minister of the Interior. Because the individual, obviously, was very, very dangerous (…) and he headed for a police officer who has Released his weapon (…) He did not shoot because his comrade warned him: there was an environment, there were time, many people, and he preferred to put his weapon. They neutralized it with a Matraque.
Arrested by the police, the suspect, Brahim A., an Algerian under OQTF and suffering from psychiatric disorders, was taken into custody without delay. The national anti -terrorist prosecution said that an investigation into “assassination in connection with a terrorist company” had been opened. He had already been tried after publishing a video on his Facebook account, encouraging Muslims to “fight the disbelievers”. He was then sentenced to six months in prison and prohibited from French territory for a period of ten years.
When he left prison, he was under an obligation to leave French territory (OQTF). After being placed in an administrative detention center, Algeria had refused ten times to take it back, according to Bruno Retailleau. He had then been under house arrest and forced to appear every day at the police station.
An inter -ministerial advice organized on Wednesday
The first victims of the attack are two parking officers, who were transported to the hospital. One of them, seriously injured in the thorax, was able to go out the same evening, while the other, reached the neck, will have to be transferred Sunday to a hospital in Colmar, prefecture of Haut-Rhin. The other three injured are the municipal police who mastered the attacker. Their condition is less serious. A 69 -year -old man, of Portuguese origin, was killed. He was at the market to shop at the time of the facts.
Sunday morning, Jean-Noël Barrot, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced on Europe 1 that the French government would organize an interministerial council on immigration control on Wednesday following the attack involving an irregular suspect.
