What was that?! The Fast & Furious 10 ending with the nuclear submarine and the 2 surprise appearances explained

What was that The Fast Furious 10 ending with

Since Wednesday, Vin Diesel and his team have been racing down the country roads of world history again. But Fast and Furious 10 ends very differently than any installment in the action franchise before it. We answer all questions about the confusing final minutes of Fast X. Because this is where the events roll over. Warning: Follow Spoiler.

Table of contents:

  • Question 1: Why is Fast 10 ending so suddenly and when is Fast 11 coming?
  • Question 2: What does the nuclear submarine and the appearance of Gal Gadot mean?
  • Question 3:
What does Dwayne Johnson’s surprise appearance mean?
  • Explanation 1: Fast and Furious 10 is the first part of the split finale of the series

Fast and Furious 10 is one of the longest films in the franchise at 141 minutes. And yet this part ends extremely abruptly. In fact, it doesn’t really have an ending. The film stops in the middle of the fight between Dom Toretto and Jason Momoa’s Dante. Dom and his son Brian just survived a massive explosion at Hoover Dam. We see Jason Momoa’s vengeful villain again. Then comes the cut and we travel to Antarctica where Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and Cipher (Charlize Theron) have escaped their prison. Here comes the next surprise, which also causes confusion (see point 2).

When will Fast 11 continue? Fast 10 applies the same “trick” as Avengers 3: Infinity War. In Infinity War, too, the action practically stopped in the middle of the film. Avengers 3 and Avengers 4: Endgame were two chapters in a story that closed the Infinity Saga. Just like Fast 10 and 11. The difference: Avengers 4 started only a year after Avengers 3. Fast & Furious 11 will hardly make it. The movie is definitely coming, but filming on the planned franchise finale hasn’t started yet. Fast 11 probably won’t start until 2025. (More on that: Fast 11 is definitely coming and even after that Vin Diesel wants to continue)

Explanation 2: Gal Gadot returns from the dead as Gisele, but how?

    Universal

    Gal Gadot as Gisele

Fast and Furious has lost all modesty when it comes to returning characters that are actually dead. Almost 9 finally summoned Han (Sung Kang) back to the living. The next candidate: Gisele. Gal Gadot’s character pretty clearly died on the runway in the finale of Fast & Furious 6. She stayed away from the series for 10 years: she sat out almost 7, 8 and 9. But we never saw her body. In Fast 10 she celebrates her comeback from the afterlife. And, sorry, Gal Gadot could hardly have wished for a better performance.

How could Gisele return? In Antarctica near Letty and Cipher, a nuclear submarine breaks through the ice sheet. Gisele climbs out of the door. It was part of Cipher’s rescue plan. So does Charlize Theron’s character have anything to do with her return? It’s more likely that Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell) is involved. Mr. Nobody was already responsible for Han’s wrong death and in Fast 9 he hinted that he had done something like this more often and better. Did he mean Gisele? We probably won’t get a definitive explanation until Fast 11.

Explanation 3: Dwayne Johnson is back as Hobbs after a 7 year absence. Forever?

    Universal

    Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs

In the post-credits scene of Fast and Furious 10, the next and probably biggest surprise follows: Dwayne Johnson returns as Hobbs – and that after 7 years of fighting with Vin Diesel. At the end of a longer sequence, he tears the mask off his face. He is one of the targets of the Jason Momoa character, along with Dom and his team. Because he was involved in the legendary Rio de Janeiro heist in Fast & Furious Five.

Is Dwayne Johnson in Fast 11? It can be assumed. While the action series is already star-studded, the closing credits scene clearly hints at a bigger role for The Rock. He can support his favorite enemy Dom in the fight against Jason Momoa. An official confirmation of this is still missing.

    More on the subject:

What is Fast and Furious 10 about?

Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his crew have run away from danger in their cars in the past. But now an enemy emerges from the shadows of the past who is out for bloody revenge: he wants to destroy the “family” and destroy everything that is dear to Dom.

What the car artists in Fast & Furious Five didn’t know: The Brazilian drug lord Hernan Reyes, who they eliminated and whose empire they destroyed, had a son who saw everything: Dante (Jason Momoa). And he’s been working on a master plan for the past twelve years to get back at Dom for what they did to him. This retaliatory strike spreads its motorized enemies across the globe: from Los Angeles, to Rome and London, to Brazil, Portugal and Antarctica.

Fast and Furious 10 has been in German cinemas since May 17th.
