What clothes and materials to choose against perspiration? Do we have the right to wear what we want in the office? How to cover yourself appropriately to avoid tonsillitis or sunburn?
Hot weather promotes perspiration. To avoid getting soaked, it is advisable to wear clothes adapted but also to avoid simple mistakes that can lead to inconvenience.
Wear loose clothing
Loose clothing allows air to circulate more easily and promotes the evaporation of perspiration. Jeans and tight-fitting leggings are to be avoided, especially since they may interfere with the blood circulation, already slowed down by the dilation of the vessels caused by the heat, and thus increase the sensation of heavy legs. Same for the shoes with too tight straps.
Choose lightweight fabrics
For everyday life, prefer natural materials such as linen or cotton that let the skin sweat and dry quickly. A cotton fabric thus absorbs 10 to 20% moisture compared to barely 3% for polyester or 5% for polyamide. However, they do not wick away moisture. For Sportthere are technical fabrics specially designed to wick away perspiration, such as Coolmax whose fibers with surface channels avoid wet contact with the skin.
Change clothes frequently
Sweat, made up of water, lipids, pheromones and other metabolic waste, causes the appearance of bad smells once in contact with the bacteria present on the skin. It is therefore necessary to change clothes more frequently, several times a day when playing sports. A bathing suit soaked in seawater and sand may also promote urinary tract infections.
Cover sensitive parts
If you must be exposed to the sun, even for a short time, it is necessary to cover the skin so as not to risk the sunburn. At a minimum, a hat protecting the ears, a Short-sleeved t-shirt for the shoulders and Bermuda shorts. On the exposed parts, pass a good layer of sunscreen. To absolutely avoid, the walk on the beach in a bathing suit, it is better to wrap yourself in a sarong.
Adopt light colors
Dark colors absorb heat from the sun, while light colors tend to reflect it. A white fabric absorbs only 120 watts per square meter, three times less than the black fabric. Beige or white clothes are therefore recommended. On the other hand, the sun tends to fade bright colors. Also think about this before extending your washing in the sun. In the shade, the clothes may dry less quickly but the colors are preserved.
Avoid jewelry
With perspiration, jewelry sticks to the skin, which can promote allergies. Those made of metal also tend to heat up the body, especially at the wrist or neck, which are major cooling points for the body.
Air conditioning: precautions to take
We don’t always think of bringing a sweater when it’s 35°C outside. However, offices and shops are increasingly air-conditioned. However, staying all day in shorts and a tank top in a draft of cold air is risky, it is theangina or insured rhinitis. Cool air conditioning can also cause headaches, muscle cramps and torticollis. In short, always bring a vest and thin socks to put on just in case.
In the office, respect the regulations
Insofar as freedom to dress is not a fundamental freedom within the meaning of the law, the employer is free to lay down certain prohibitions and to require the wearing of decent clothing for reasons of safety or representation, for example. An employee in contact with customers can thus be prohibited from wearing Bermuda shorts even in very hot weather, stipulates a judgment of the Court of Cassation in 2008. The same constraints are applicable for wearing a skirt or a blouse too transparent.
