What the investigation reveals into the shooting of Kendji Girac

Two months after Kendji Girac’s gunshot wound, the investigation into the shooting is complete.

“The investigations are now complete”: two months after the shooting which injured Kendji Girac, the public prosecutor of Mont-de-Marsan Olivier Janson announces the end of the investigation. On the night of Sunday April 21 to Monday April 22, the popular singer was the victim of a shot in the chest, causing his hospitalization in serious condition and a series of questions. To investigators, Kendji Girac explained that he had shot himself, in the context of a domestic dispute.

“The investigations, which have since been able to continue calmly, are now completed,” announced the prosecution in a press release published Monday. Any intervention by a third party is ruled out by the investigators in this shooting, which was therefore indeed provoked by the artist himself, in a context of “advanced alcoholism, aggravated by the use of narcotics”. “He returned to these first statements, indicating that in view of his alcoholism and his cocaine intake, he was not aware of what he was doing with this weapon,” detailed the public prosecutor Olivier Janson in the same press release. The investigation is therefore closed without further action.

Kendji Girac was, in the same case, indicted for “acquisition and possession of a category B weapon” and “illicit use of narcotics”, two offenses punishable respectively by five years and one year of imprisonment. The singer should not be prosecuted for these two charges, but will have to pay two “citizen contributions” to a victim support association, and will be subject to a six-month “health monitoring”.
