The PS5 Pro has been officially introduced, but the price is causing a lot of discussion. Is it even worth buying the PS5 Pro if it costs 800 euros?
The PS5 Pro has been officially introduced and the price and release date of the PS5 Pro have been announced. But it is the high price of 800 euros that makes many gamers angry. Because many say, “You can just buy a gaming PC for that money!”
Firstly, we look at how much hardware you can really get for 800 to 900 euros. Secondly, we explain to you which purchase is most worthwhile for whom and how much “gaming PC” you can really get in the end.
PS5 Pro or gaming PC for 800 euros – This is what you get
How much does the PS5 cost? Sony had announced the official price and release date of the PS5 Pro:
The PS5 Pro will cost 799 euros in Germany.
For a drive you pay an additional 119.99 euros and for a stand around 30 euros. For a second DualSense controller you pay around 60 euros.
You will therefore pay around 950 euros for the complete package. A subscription to PS Plus is not included.
Which gaming PC can you get for 800 to 900 euros? To find out, we compared the prices of ready-made PCs in several shops. We always assume around 900 euros:
At CSL you can already get a fast mid-range PC with i5-14400F and an RTX 4060 Ti. That’s enough for Full HD and also for WQHD with compromises in the frame rate.
At Dubaro you get a Ryzen 5 5600X and an RX 6750 XT. This allows you to play with high frame rates in WQHD and, with some compromises, even use 4K.
At Megaport you get a Ryzen 5 5600 and an RTX 4060. The RTX 4060 is Nvidia’s entry-level GPU for Full HD.
Depending on the offer, you either get a very good entry-level gaming PC (RTX 4060) or a mid-range gaming PC (RX 6750 XT). As a rule, you have to upgrade your graphics card every 3 to 5 years if you always want to play top titles.
PS5 Pro, gaming PC or the old PS5?
Basically, it depends on what you really need and what you should buy at the end of the day:
This speaks for the PS5:
If you only want to play current titles and 30 FPS or occasionally 60 FPS are enough for you, then the normal PS5 or PS5 Slim is completely sufficient. Because their performance is still sufficient for all titles that are released for the PS5.
If you “just” want to play, don’t want to worry about settings and don’t want to upgrade for the next four or five games, then the regular PS5 is still the best choice.
If you need a drive in the PS5 because you buy films and series via your console, then the extra cost of the PS5 Pro might be too expensive for you. After all, you have to purchase an additional drive.
If you are looking for a straightforward and accessible gaming experience, then the PS5 is still a very good console.
This speaks for the PS5 Pro:
If you already have a 4K or 8K setup and want to get the most out of your setup and your PS5, you might want to consider upgrading to the PS5 Pro.
If money is no object and the PS5 is your main platform, then the PS5 Pro is also the best way for you.
For you, stable 60 FPS is an absolute must and you don’t want to play with anything less.
This speaks for a gaming PC:
A gaming PC is the better choice if you want to be more flexible and not only do gaming but also surf the Internet or do office tasks.
The gaming PC is also a good option if you are thinking of upgrading your CPU or graphics card later. You can usually have upgrades done by a shop.
For 900 euros you get more money in the PC area than with the PS5 Pro, but you have to invest time in installing games and software yourself.
