Fresh 7-match under-23 European champion Saga Vanninen has been able to prepare for the first adult World Championships of his career according to plans. After the Kaleva Games, he has done a couple of hard exercises, but otherwise he has only focused on improving his condition.
Everything should be ready when the match starts on Saturday with the 100-meter hurdles at 11:35. Quick fences is a sport that determines a lot of the match and how the job continues from there. This season, Vanninen has run his new record in the sport, when he clocked a time of 13.34 in Jämsä.
– Quick hurdles tells quite a lot about one’s condition, but it is just as important as other sports, Vanninen reminded.
Height, which is another sport for him, is, so to speak, a critical sport. If it goes well, the match gets off to a good start. Vanninen, who was in a strong mood this summer, has improved his record in this sport as well, and now his record height is 1.80.
– The most important thing at altitude is to calm down a little. That I don’t rush too much. However, it’s a bit the same for every sport! he laughed.
At the end of May, Vanninen took the Finnish under-23 record in Götzis with 6,391 points. With this result, she is fourth on the world list, but in the World Championships Adrianna Sulek from Poland, who is expecting her first child, has left the list before her.
However, Vanninen does not look at statistics or lists, because many players have not yet played a full match this season. Vanninen plans to compete without pressure, but still has one tough goal in mind.
– Yes, I’m going to get the record. And hopefully I could break that Finnish record. We’ll see tomorrow how it goes.
The 7-match SE readings of 6,404 have been in the name of Satu Ruotsalainen for more than 30 years, as the Ruotsalainen did this in the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo. However, Vanninen is already 15 points away.
The 20-year-old Vanninen has been involved in international competitions since he was young, so he is not nervous for nothing. No World Cup arenas either.
– It’s pretty cool that you can compete with your own models! Vanninen was enthusiastic and told who he particularly follows.
– As the biggest role model, Anna Hall – right at the top.
Vanni was interviewed by Laura Arffman.
