The post-apocalyptic universe of “Mad Max: Fury Road” returns to the cinema with its prequel “Furiosa”, centered on the origins of the heroine. The action film was released this Wednesday, May 22.
The challenge of repeating the feat of Mad Max: Fury Road, a post-apocalyptic rock opera that completely shook the Croisette, the critics and the spectators, was highly ambitious. Nine years later, however, Georges Miller took up the challenge brilliantly with Furiosaprequel on the youth of the character played by Charlize Theronwhose role this time is taken on by Anya Taylor-Joy.
As Mad Max: Fury Road before him, it was the Croisette which had the first chance to discover Furiosa before its cinema release this Wednesday, May 22. In this new opus, which takes place a few decades earlier, Georges Miller further explores the war for resources between the different clans of the Wasteland to tell the story of a revenge, the fight of a survivor who has everything taken to regain power over his oppressors.
Our review of Furiosa
Let’s say it right away, the comparison with Mad Max: Fury Road would not be honest as the latter was a slap in the face when it came out. First, because we already know the universe and its unique aesthetic. We are pleased to find here the costumes, the sets, the unique makeup of this work, without the element of surprise (which is normal). Then, because the narration is completely opposite: where Fury Road made the radical choice to tell a chase going from point A to point B (before returning to its starting point), Furiosa chooses the more classic option by spreading its plot over nearly 18 years in chronological order.
So, the beginning of the film is a little too long and talky. Like an old bike, Furiosa therefore takes a little time to start. But as soon as we finally get past the second (part), the one where the heroine finally begins to regain power, it becomes enjoyable. Grace to its violent and explosive action scenes (Georges Miller films the movement like no other)her rock aesthetic so singular and the interpretations of its actors (Anya Taylor-Joy proves once again that she has the shoulders to carry the franchise, when Chris Hemsworth is amazing in this role against employment), Furiosa is an excellent blockbuster and a tasty pleasure that we would be wrong to refuse.

While traveling through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by Immortan Joe, the big bad of Mad Max: Fury Road.
