What is the motor cortex

The motor cortex refers to the region of the brain that controls and plans all voluntary movements of the human body.

The motor cortex designates the region of the brain that controls and plans all voluntary movements of the human body. It brings together under its name two distinct areas which are the primary motor cortex and the secondary motor cortex (or premotor cortex) which can itself be divided into two functional areas. The motor cortex is located in the posterior region of the frontal lobe. It is in permanent interaction with other brain structures, which provide it with the necessary information (localization in space, organization of movements, coordination…).
